Civil Partnerships

From the 5th December 2005, two people of the same sex who are cohabiting will be able to register their relationship. Once registered they will have certain legal rights: -

1)
The right to be treated as next of kin in hospital.
2)
A duty to provide reasonable maintenance for your civil partner and children of the family.
3)
Equality with married heterosexual couples for purposes of life assurance.
4)
Same treatment as spouses for tax purposes.
5)
Same treatment as spouses for where there are no Wills in existence.
6)
Access to fatal accidents compensation.
7)
Protection for domestic violence.
8)
Recognition for immigration and nationality purposes.
